USAGE OF POLYURETHANE COLOUR LACQUER DURING THE FINISHING PROCESS OF YOUR GUITAR KIT BUILD

The polyurethane colour lacquer is used after the primer/ sealer coat. Its goal is really to provide a nice design to your guitar kit but it provides also an additional layer of protection of the guitar body. It will grant a durable finish to your electric guitar for many decades! We propose here a total of two different polyurethane colour lacquer to paint in Gold your guitar body or electric guitar neck:
- Metallic Gibson Gold Top finishing: Introduced from 1952 to 1955 by Les Paul, the Gold Top is one of the classic finishes of Gibson guitar and preferred by many of his collectors, along with the sunburst of ’59.
- Metallic Fender Shoreline Gold finishing: it is softer than the Gold Top and similar to the colour “champagne” colour. Inspired by the Pontiac 1959 and used by Fender from 1960 to 1965

POLYURETHANE COLOR LACQUER COMPATIBILITY WITH OUR GUITAR FINISHING PRODUCTS.

The polyurethane colour lacquer is compatible with all our polyurethane products: polyurethane primer, polyurethane varnish as well as our grain filler and our polish pastes.

POLYURETHANE COLOR LACQUER PREPARATION AND APPLICATION.

You will need to mix the polyurethane colour lacquer with the provided hardener with a mixing ratio of 2:1. When the mixture is done, it has a lifetime of 2hrs to apply it before it is hard. Apply thin layer to avoid any drip and get a homogeneous distribution and wait between 8 to 12 hours between coats. We also advise to sand slightly before putting the next coat to ensure that new coat will attached well. Note that Polyurethane is toxic (still less compared to nitrocellulose chemical compound) and need protection: google, mask and gloves as available on our website.

Also if you want to spray the lacquer – which we strongly advice – and you don't have the material and don't want to invest in a spray gun, The Guitar Kit Fabric proposes the rechargeable spray preval product. With this item you can add the polyurethane lacquer with half of hardener, mix it and spray it on your guitar body. The preval spray will allow a good spraying of the sealer and can spray up to 500mL before needing to be recharged.

Further instruction will be provided along with your order.
