This grain filler is pumice power perfect to fill the pore of your guitar kit without modifying the original wood tint.

Grain filler is used to fill the pores of the wood. Although it is an optional step to finish your guitar kit it is advised for open pore woods for two reasons:
- It permits a very clean and smooth high gloss guitar finish,
- It reduces the quantity of sealer, lacquer and painting you will need to apply on your guitar body.

The open pores wood includes Ash, Mahogany, Rosewood, Jatoba and Paulownia, so the wood essence on which you might want to apply grain filler.

Still if you have big open pore wood you might want to use first our water base grain filler. But for final perfect grain filled and get like a mirror results, pumice is advised as it will fill the tiny scratch very well

GRAIN FILLER COMPATIBILITY WITH OUR GUITAR FINISHING PRODUCTS.

Our selected Grain filler needs to be mixed and therefore can be seen as waterbase if mix with water, oil base if mixed with oil compound, etc. For compatibility point of view make sure to mix it with the relevant liquid as per your guitar finishing choices like mix it with water for waterbased finished.

GRAIN FILLER PREPARATION AND APPLICATION.

The pumice powder can be used dry or wet. First you can sandpaper with a grain of 600. Then put some power on the wood as you will put flour on a surface to make a cake, like sprinkle pumice on the wood. Then you can either:

  • with a cloth you wet it with alcohol and in some cases oil, to fill pores, and obtain a very smooth surface on which the final finish is easy to apply. It can also be wet with water or liquid paraffin depending on the type of finish. Then apply circle on the surface where you have put the pumice. Apply some pressure so that the pumice will fill the pore
  • use a brush and apply it from the grain of the wood going forth and back to integrated the pumice. This is a softer integration so it is really for the finish and get a perfect mirror results

Applying grain filler is not that complicated but slightly time demanding. Note taht, if you want stain guitar finish, you can directly mix the grain filler with our dyes colours to achieve the tone you really aim for.

Once you have grain filled you can continue with sealer (although not really needed as you should have already a very smooth surface) or lacquer, paint or varnish.
