USAGE OF WATERBASE SEALER/ BASE COAT DURING THE FINISHING PROCESS OF YOUR GUITAR KIT BUILD
The nitrocellulose sealer is used to seal the pore and is the very first coat you want to pass to finish your guitar kit (unless you have decided to use grain filler: see grain filler section). The clear sealer offers a high transparency and is well indicated for natural finishing:
- before passing colour lacquer such as amber or butterscotch,
- with dye/tint in which case we advise to stain first and then seal. With dye, we do prefer to use waterbase sealer instead of nitrocellulose or polyurethane sealer,
- to seal the wood before passing your top coat such as varnish clear lacquer or shellac . This way you will get a proper natural finishing of your electric guitar.
The natural colour of wood and the wood mesh will be preserved and its grains revitalised.
WATERBASE SEALER COMPATIBILITY WITH OUR GUITAR FINISHING PRODUCTS.
The waterbase primer is compatible with all our waterbase products: waterbase varnish lacquer as well as our dye, grain filler and our polish pastes products.
WATERBASE SEALER PREPARATION AND APPLICATION.
Apply thin layers to avoid any drip and get a homogeneous distribution and wait between 8 to 12 hours between coats. It is advised to sand slightly before putting the next coat to ensure that new coat will attached well. One good thing with waterbase sealer is that it is not toxic so you dont need any specific protections.
Also if you want to spray the sealer - which we strongly advice - and you don't have the material and don't want to invest in a spray gun, The Guitar Kit Fabric proposes the rechargeable spray preval product. Add the waterbase primer and then spray it on your guitar body. The preval spray will allow a good spraying of the sealer and can spray up to 500mL before needed to be recharged.
