Wood Dye Powder - Black Metal Complex - 28g 1Oz
Metal Complex Wood Dye Powder (Alcohol or Water Soluble) (28g, 1oz)
- Powdered dye for interior woodworking projects, available in a wide selection of wood and rainbow colours
- Dissolves in water or alcohol - synthetic methanol is recommended
- Metal complex dyes have the best lightfastness of all of our powdered dyes and will only very gradually fade when exposed to UV
- 28 g makes approximately 2 litre of dye
- Colours can be mixed to make your own custom shades
Application:
Application Method: brush, sponge, cloth
- Dissolving in water we recommend using hot, but not boiling, water.
Always start by putting the water into a suitable glass, plastic (HDPE) or ceramic container, and then gradually add the powder. Stir the solution while adding, and then stir occasionally over the course of 10-15 minutes to ensure all powder is dissolved. Allow to cool before use.
- Dissolving in alcohol we recommend Methanol (wood alcohol) or denatured alcohol can be used, but these are not as effective.
Always start by putting the solvent into a suitable glass, plastic (HDPE) or ceramic container, and then gradually add the powder. Stir the solution while adding, and then stir occasionally over the course of 30-60 minutes to ensure all powder is dissolved.
If dissolved in alcohol the dye can be added to our nitrocellulose lacquer to tint it. If doing this, strain the solution before adding to ensure no undissolved lumps enter into the lacquer and your spray equipment.
The mixed stain can be applied to wood with a sponge, cloth or brush.
These 28g (1oz) packets will create:
- 2 litre of normal strength stain
- 4 litres of wash coat
- 1 litre of concentrated stain
